If there is one thing more difficult than finding the mental drive to hit the gym each day or go for a run, it is the challenge of properly fueling the human body before and after exercising.
Our bodies are the most advanced engines known to man. Like an automotive engine running on unleaded gas, without the right fuel the body simply won’t perform at its peak.
And just like that car engine, putting the wrong fuel in our bodies can have a negative impact on progress.
There isn’t an exercise program known to man that will provide long term, sustainable results without a shift in diet.
Smoothies are a great source of the nutrients needed to fuel up before and recover after a workout. The following are seven of the best smoothies to help supercharge your workout while at SLR gym.
Don’t forget to check their October package!
1. Apple Lemonade:
Many people trying to break into a new fitness routine focus solely on fueling their bodies during the recovery phase after a workout is complete, ignoring the equally important power up phase before working out.
This smoothie is made of apple & lemon; what is special about this drink is the sour taste in it, thanks to the lemon skins.
2- Summer Lover:
This smoothie is so perfect, the ingredients are so balanced and no additives, no sugar, no nothing in it expect for fruits. Like any good pre-workout snack, this smoothie should be consumed at least 30 minutes before hitting the gym. This gives the body enough time to process the nutrients through its system and have them available to burn during an exercise regimen.
It consists of strawberry, pineapple and apple.
3- Flu fighter:
I fell in love with this drink since I caught a cold and I wasn’t doing very well. This drink really affected positively my body since it consists of Banana, ginger and orange.
This drink is a perfect example of a smoothie that will help supercharge a workout before hitting the gym. Bananas pack one of the greatest nutrient punches in the food kingdom. Loaded with potassium and antioxidants, as well as other vital nutrients, bananas provide as much of a pre-workout boost as some of the leading sports drinks and synthetic supplements.
Ginger which contains anti-inflammatory compounds has been found to ease post workout muscle soreness by up to 25%.
Now that you have a slower digesting carb source, it is also beneficial to have a small but sufficient source of fast-digesting carbs to kick-start your workout.
Oranges provide this type of quick energy source. That's why you always hear bodybuilders talking about eating or sucking on oranges before a workout.
4- Coffee – Who said coffee?
When consuming coffee before exercise, fat cells will be used as an energy source as opposed to glycogen. Also, the high amounts of caffeine in black coffee will increase your metabolism, which makes you burn more calories throughout the day.
We will be revealing other articles very soon! But for now, we hope that you enjoyed our collaboration with SLR Gym bar and we would like to thank Mo who prepared all these smoothies.
